College football: QB Nolan, running back Baylor and defense lead way as OSU wins in L.A. for first time since 1960.

Big picture: Oregon State (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) came through with a historic win at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, while dealing reeling USC (2-2, 1-2) another loss. With such a performance, and Chance Nolan solidifying his spot as a standout Pac-12 QB, why can't the Beavers dream big and believe they can contend for the Pac-12 title?

The Beavers can't slip up next week in a home game against Washington (2-2, 1-0).

Oregon State beat USC in Los Angeles for the first time since 1960. Yes, it had been 61 years, and an 0-24 record in L.A. before Nolan, B.J. Baylor and an opportunistic defense combined to end the streak.

In winning 45-27, the Beavers also scored the most points ever against USC, eclipsing the 38 points in 1914.

The Beavers romped, after trailing 14-7. Nolan recovered from an early interception, and led the Beavers to five consecutive touchdown drives — a 35-3 streak by OSU that spelled the end for the Trojans, who made the score look respectable by scoring 10 fourth-quarter points.

USC still had a chance trailing 42-27, but the Beavers made a late interception (Jack Colletto, 2:53 left). OSU's Everett Hayes finished the scoring with a 42-yard field goal.

Notable numbers: The Beavers rushed for 322 yards, and QB Nolan had a terrific game, going 15 of 19 for 213 yards and four touchdowns and he rushed for 57 yards on 12 carries.

Baylor, no longer playing in Jermar Jefferson's shadow, had 158 yards on 23 carries. Receiver Tyjon Lindsey topped 100 yards receiving (102) on five receptions, and caught two of Nolan's TD passes. Tre'Shaun Harrison and Teagan Quitoriano also had TD receptions.

USC quarterback Kedon Slovis, who was replaced by freshman Jaxson Dart, only to return to start after Dart suffered a knee injury, topped 300 yards through the air. But, the Beavers picked him off three times and the defense allowed the Trojans only 76 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Drake London had 165 yards receiving on 10 receptions for USC.

The Beavers were hurt by penalties early and finished with 14 for 154 yards.

OSU has topped 40 points in three consecutive games for the first time since 2013.

Colletto, in addition to his interception, had two rushing TDs.

Up next: Washington at Oregon State, 6 p.m., Oct. 2 (PAC-12 Network).
