WHL HOCKEY: Portland rallies from 3-0 deficit to beat visiting Tri-City for third consecutive win.

The third consecutive win for the Portland Winterhawks was a comeback effort.

Portland scored three times in the third period Saturday to complete a rally and beat the Tri-City Americans 4-3 in a Western Hockey League game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Winterhawks are 3-2-0-1 (seven points), second behind Everett in the U.S. Division. The Americans are 2-3-0-0 (four points).

Third-period goals from Gabe Klassen, Dawson Pasternak and Marek Alscher completed the turnaround after Tri-City took a 3-0 lead 6:45 into the second period.

Pasternak's tying goal, on a power-play shot through traffic, and Alscher's winner from a similar spot just above the left-wing circle, were the first WHL goals for each player. Klassen's second goal of the season at 2:08 of the third period was a redirect of a Kyle Chyzowski feed on the rush.

Marcus Nguyen's first goal of the season at 7:19 of the second period, a shot through traffic from the top of the right-wing faceoff circle started the comeback.

Tri-City scored twice in the first period, starting with a short-handed goal.

The Winterhawks outshot the Americans 39-28. Portland was 1 for 3 on the power play and killed off five Tri-City power plays. Hawks goalie Dante Giannuzzi made 25 saves.

Portland next plays host to Everett on back-to-back nights, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22
