Portland scores four early goals and makes them stand up for home win over Kelowna.

Four first-period goals carried the Portland Winterhawks to a 4-2 Western Hockey League win Saturday, Nov. 20, over the Kelowna Rockets at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Marcus Nguyen, Gabe Klassen, Dawson Pasternak and Jaydon Dureau scored goals as Portland took a 4-0 lead. The Winterhawks outshot the Rockets 20-5 in the first period.

Portland had only 181 shots the rest of the way, but strong play by goalie Lochlan Gordon and six successful penalty kills helped Portland beat Kelowna for the second time in two nights. Gordon stopped 23 of 25 shots in the win.

Portland continues its 11-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 24, with a 7 p.m. game against the Vancouver Giants.
