Timbers announce initial roster decisions
The Portland Timbers on Monday, Dec. 13, announced they have exercised contract options on seven players for the 2022 season and are in negotiations with four others, including Sebastian Blanco.
The Timbers picked up contract options on Diego Chara, Dario Zuparic, Cristhian Paredes, Andy Polo, Marvin Loria, Blake Bodily and Zac McGraw. They are in discussions to bring back Blanco, goalkeepers Steve Clark and Aljaz Ivacic and fullback Josecarlos Van Rankin.
The club declined contract options for Ismaila Jome, Jorge Gonzales and Manny Perez. Midfielder Renzo Zambrano is out of contract.
As of the morning of Dec. 13, here is the Timbers roster:
Goalkeepers: Jeff Attinella, Hunter Sulte. Defenders: Pablo Bonilla, Claudio Bravo, Larrys Mabiala, Zac McGraw, Bill Tuiloma, Dario Zuparic. Midfielders: Blake Bodily, Diego Chara, Yimmi Chara, George Fochive, Marvin Loría, Santiago Moreno, Cristhian Paredes, Andy Polo, Diego Valeri, Eryk Williamson. Forwards: Dairon Asprilla, Felipe Mora, Jaroslaw Niezgoda.
The expansion draft for incoming Charlotte takes place Tuesday, and the Timbers could lose one player. Charlotte will select five players Tuesday from a list of players not protected by their current MLS club. Portland players available for selection by Charlotte include Diego Valeri.
