Former Portland Trail Blazer Caleb Swanigan announced dead at 25
Former Portland Trail Blazer Caleb Swanigan was announced deceased Tuesday morning by his alma mater Purdue on social media. Cause of death and other details are not yet known. Swanigan was 25 years old.
Swanigan is a former Mr. Basketball in Indiana and went to Purdue and saw immediate success as a freshman. The following year, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 boards.
Portland took Swanigan in the 2017 NBA Draft with the No. 26 pick and he played in 45 games across the next two seasons for the Blazers, making three starts.
Swanigan spent 10 games with Sacramento in 2019 before Portland reacquired him in Jan. 2020 where he played 20 more games.
