With the fall season set to open Aug. 15 with practice, we take a look at some coaching changes around Portland for the 2022-2023 preps season.

One of the biggest updates we've already touched on in Jefferson High boys basketball bringing back five-time state champion coach Pat Strickland. But there's plenty of more moves where that came from.

Here's all the changes we've tracked down so far, along with a few openings still looking to be filled.

She brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels to the Columbia Volleyball program. "

The Knights girls basketball program also will return, heading by new head coach Jeff Ahrend.

"Coach Ahrend was hired for this position due to his extensive knowledge of the game, his passion for leading young people, and his plans to build our Girls Basketball program through the youth," Chapman said.

"Jamal has been the high school head coach At Arcata High School for the past five years," the school said in the press release. "During his five years, he led the football program to five consecutive winning seasons, five consecutive playoff appearances, two league championships, and two state playoff championship appearances. Jamal has also assisted 21 young men with continuing their athletic and academic careers at the college level."

Grant

The Generals had a couple big holes to fill with the departure of John Beck from the football program and Robert Key from boys basketball. In their place, a couple of youngsters are stepping into the roles.

First announced was Alex Melson for the football team. Melson has been the Generals' defensive coordinator for the past four years and played football at Grant and Western Oregon.

On the hardwood, Dondrale Campbell is moving over from Cleveland after leading the Warriors to their first PIL title in 60 years and a run to the final eight in the state playoffs.
