Lincoln High's Lukas Weinbach prepares for state meet, along with other PIL athletes

Fear of heights (while upside down)?

Yes, that's to be expected, and it can be a good thing, says the best pole vaulter in the Portland Interscholastic League, Lincoln High junior Lukas Weinbach.

"I think you'd be crazy not to be a little scared" to pole vault, he says. "And I think it helps you be fast on the runway."

Weinbach won his second PIL title on Wednesday, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches — equal to his winning mark in 2016.

His PR is 14-6, which came in the April 22 Centennial Invitational.
