Falcons roll Putnam, 62-25, race into 5A girls semifinals
CORVALLIS -- Taycee Wedin scored 15 points to lead three La Salle Prep players in double figures, pacing the Falcons to a 62-25 rout of Putnam in Wednesday's OSAA Class 5A girls' basketball quarterfinals at Gill Coliseum.
Aleah Goodman added 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists to help send the top-ranked Falcons (24-2) into Thursday's 6:30 p.m. semifinal against Bend, a 46-36 winner over Marist Catholic.
After Putnam's Maggie Batz scored to cut La Salle's lead to 14-12 with 6:38 to play in the second quarter, the Falcons closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 28-14 halftime lead.
La Salle then put the game away in the third quarter when the Falcons outscored their Northwest Oregon Conference rivals 21-2 to extend the lead to 49-16.
The Falcons scored 15 of their points in the third quarter off Putnam turnovers.
Putnam's Kanani Kremers finished with a team-high seven points, and Haley Brandel added four points and seven rebounds for the Kingsmen (18-8).
La Salle's Isabella Crowley also scored in double figures with 12 points. Colby Jansen chipped in eight points and five rebounds, and Emily Niebergall had eight points for the Falcons, who shot 42.3 percent (22 for 52) from the field, and 37 percent (10 for 27) from 3-point range.
The Falcons advanced to the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.
