Better energy, up-tempo play helps Portland notch 1st win of series vs. Kelowna

They were assertive. And they got another strong effort from their goalie.

That equation added up to a spirit-lifting, 4-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Tuesday in Western Hockey League playoff action at Memorial Coliseum.

Kelowna leads the series 2-1. But Portland is very much in this best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal if it keeps playing with the competitive urgency it demonstrated on Tuesday.

Game 4 is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the coliseum.

In coming home from two games at Kelowna, the Hawks were energized and rediscovered their up-tempo personality.
