Two hurt in separate Portland shootings
Two people were hurt in separate shootings on Thursday in the Woodlawn and Hazelwood neighborhoods.
Officers received reports of a shooting just before 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Park on Northeast 11th Avenue.
A victim was found at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The second shooting happened about an hour later at the intersection of Southeast 99th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street.
A victim at that location was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspects in both shootings fled the respective scenes and have not been caught.
The shooting at Woodlawn Park took place near an elementary school.
"I was coming back from picking up my granddaughter at Woodlawn School and heard what I thought were firecrackers," said Sandra.
She didn't think much of it at first.
"My son comes home and says 'mom, there are police everywhere' and that's when I assumed that it wasn't firecrackers after all but gunshots."
The Hazelwood shooting miles away shut down Southeast Stark near I-205.
"Me and my wife were just taking a nap and all of a sudden we hear eight to 10 shots ring out followed by a massive amount of police sirens," said Hanna.
