Police Bureau is investigating the case as sexual assault after suspect flees on foot.

FILE PHOTO - A Portland Police Bureau patrol car is shown here. Police continue to investigate after a sexual assault was reported in downtown Portland.

Central Precinct officers responded to Northwest Glisan Street at 13th Avenue around 4:34 a.m. on Friday, July 26. Authorities say two women were targeted by a man armed with a knife.

"Officers learned one of the females was sexually assaulted by the male and the other female victim fended the male off," according to a news release. The suspect was last seen running away to the north.

Patrol officers searched the area, but the trail went cold. Police say one woman sustained a minor, non-life-threatening injury and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect was described as a white man, older than 40, with long hair in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and tan-colored shorts.

The suspect and the victims did not know each other, police say. Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact Detective Ross Dormady at (503) 823-0880 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
