Man with gun arrested in Rose City Park during foot patrol
The Portland Police Bureau says it has confiscated a gun from a convicted felon.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Officer Murphy was patrolling on foot near 67th Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street when he spotted a parked car with four people sitting inside.
One of the occupants, a woman named Armstead, had a warrant for her arrest, according to court docs. Another man — 36-year-old Imani Keye Elliott, of Portland — told the officer he had a handgun in the car.
"Officer Murphy opened the driver's door and numerous .22 cal rounds fell from the floorboard," according to the affidavit.
Elliott was arrested, police say, and the gun and other items were seized as evidence.
According to court records, Elliott has been convicted of five felonies, including first-degree theft. Elliott is now charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and being a felon in possession of a gun.
Elliott allegedly told police he was carrying a gun because of "how crazy things have been." He remains in Inverness Jail at this time.
