Gov. Kate Brown announces state contract for 20,000 kits; more testing announcements expected soon.

COURTESY PHOTO: CDC - The state will contract with Quest Diagnostics to test people for the COVID-19 virus.Gov. Kate Brown on Wednesday announced the state has entered into its first contract to obtain 20,000 testing kits.

The contract, with Quest Diagnostics, will deliver 5,000 kits immediately.

Kate Brown announced the state's first contract for 20,000 coronavirus test kits.She said the initial priorities will be health care workers and people in group care facilities, to limit the spread. "Every Oregonian won't be able to be tested immediately," she said.

Her chief of staff, Nik Blosser, said details of how the testing kits will be deployed will come out soon.

He said the state has already been receiving test results from Lab Corp. He said health systems will likely be rolling out their own testing capacity within the next few days, and possibly starting today.
