5 days, 9 shootings, 2 fatalities
Authorities are now investigating nine shootings in five days, including two where a man was killed.
The first victim is identifed as Lasalle Jamal Shakier, 29. According to police, he was shot in the 6600 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The second victim is Christopher M. Klein, 30. He died after being shot around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, in the area of East Burnside Street and 122nd Avenue.
Three other shootings happened during the evening of Friday, Sept. 11. According to police, North Precinct officers arrived at the locations and found evidence of gunfire but no victims. At one of the locations, an occupied residence was struck by gunfire.
Around 11:05 p.m., officers responded to an area hospital on reports of a walk-in gunshot wound victim. At 11:56 p.m., a separate walk-in gunshot wound victim arrived at another area hospital. Neither victim suffered from any life threatening injuries. Police do not know if the shootings are related.
Earlier in the day, at 12:40 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 3300 block of Northeast Sunderland Avenue on reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located evidence of gunfire and a victim who had been shot superficially in the leg.
Officers learned an unknown subject shot the victim in the leg and then left the area. The victim was treated on the scene for injuries but not taken to the hospital.
The victim's name was not immediately released and no suspect information was released, either.
Before that, two suspect were arrested after reportedly shooting at each other on Thursday afternoon. According to police, at approximately 4:06 p.m. on Sept. 10, East Precinct officers responded to the 400 block of Southeast 143rd Avenue on reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found evidence of gunfire, including an apartment building that was hit by bullets.
The preliminary investigation shows a confrontation occurred between several subjects. The confrontation led to two subjects shooting their firearms towards each other. No one was struck by gunfire. The names of the suspects were not immediately released.
On Wednesday, before the fatal shooting, at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, East Precinct officers responded to the 8500 block of Northeast Russell Street on reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim with gunshot wounds.
Officers learned the victim had been shot at a separate location before arriving at the Northeast Russell Street location. Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim's arm in an attempt to render lifesaving aid.
The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. Police said he was not forthcoming with information regarding the incident.
Two days earlier, at approximately 3:15 p.m., on Sept. 7, East Precinct officers responded to the 3900 block of Southeast 105th Avenue on reports of shots fired. When officers arrived at the location, they found an adult male who had been shot. The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
