Downtown businesses boarding up for election night trouble
Businesses were still boarding up at 3 p.m. on Election Day in anticipation of graffiti, broken windows and looting.
Some downtown stores have stayed covered since the riots of May 29, when the Pioneer Place mall and Apple store were at the epicenter of looting. Others now have joined the fray.
Whole Foods in the Pearl District was clad in wood Tuesday afternoon.
Workers scrambled to cover the windows of the Yes office building on Southwest 10th Avenue and Washington Street ("creative space for lease").
Some businesses have gone south during the long summer of protests, including the infamous 7-Eleven at Southwest Fourth Avenue and Taylor Street, scene of many a fistfight and refueling stop.
Portland City Hall has been boarded up for months, and the fence remains around the Hatfield Federal Courthouse.
Likewise the 7-Eleven downtown, which went out of business in September.
