Hillsboro idea part of online popularity contest
Hillsboro is one of 20 cities featured in an online popularity contest at the Huffington Post that you can enter.
The news and opinion website is hosting a contest on the 20 finalists in the $5 million Bloomberg Mayors Challenge, a contest that seeks to drive innovation in local government. The winner of the $5 million prize, as well as four $1 million winners, will be announced in April 2013.
Hillsboro is one of the finalists. Its innovative idea is a series of GoPoint mobility hubs throughout the city. Residents can use them to connect with alternative forms of transportation, including car pools and bike rentals.
As part of the Challenge application, all of the cities, including Hillsboro created short videos to describe ideas. Bloomberg Philanthropies has partnered with the Huffington Post to create a national fan favorite contest of the 20 finalists videos.

The contest does not have a bearing on the final outcome. But it allows people to view all of the applications and vote on their favorite. And the contest winning city will receive a $50,000 IBM services grant to support their idea, featured coverage and promotion from Huffington Post, a monthly front page column for that citys mayor for a year, and an interview with Arianna Huffington on Huff Post Live, the websites video news platform.
Hillsboro officials are encouraging everyone to take part in the contest. The link to it has been posted on the citys homepage. The officials encourage you to share it with your friend and use the hashtag #MayorsChallenge when tweeting about it.
