A water main break closed West Burnside near the heart of downtown early Tuesday morning.

The Portland Water Bureau expects repairs to take many hours. Drivers are advised to find other routes.

The 24-inch cast iron water pipe installed in 1913 ruptured at about 12:45 a.m., Oct. 29 near the Right 2 Dream Too Old Town homeless camp at Southwest Fourth Avenue and West Burnside Street.

Water bureau crews arrived and shut down the pipe, but the street was significantly damaged.
