Police are investigating an armed robbery and attempted carjacking in North Portland on Tuesday evening.

According to police, at 9:12 p.m. on Nov. 19, North Precinct officers responded to a call at North Kerby Avenue and Farragut Street.

Officers arrived and contacted the 18-year-old male victims, who said they were sitting in a parked car next to Farragut Park when two males approached them and asked for a cigarette.

One victim opened the passenger side door and one of the suspects retrieved a handgun from his waistband and demanded both victims' property.

The second suspect also displayed a handgun, and one of the suspects tried to take the keys from the ignition but the key broke off in the ignition.

The suspects were last seen running westbound on North Terry Street.

Several officers, including a Police K-9 Unit, searched the neighborhood but did not locate anyone matching the suspects' descriptions.

Both suspects are described as African American males, 18 to 20 years old, one with a red hoodie and the other with a white hoodie and both armed with handguns.
