The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found in Johnson Creek near the Springwater Trail.

The Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be drowning. The victim has been identified as Daniel Leroy Leek, 44, of Gresham.

The preliminary investigation indicates no signs of foul play.

According to the sheriff's office, at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, deputies responded to the report of a body seen in Johnson Creek just east of Southeast Jenne Road on the Springwater Trail.

The sheriff's office says that two people who camped in the area had not seen their friend in a couple of days, and started checking the area to see if they could find him. They located a bicycle he rode on Springwater Trail near the bank of Johnson Creek, saw something in the water and called 911.

Responding deputies located the body of an adult male in Johnson Creek. Sheriff's office detectives were notified and responded to conduct the death investigation.

River Patrol deputies trained in swiftwater rescue responded and recovered the body from the creek. The body was turned over to the Medical Examiner's office.
