by: KOIN NEWS 6 - Police rushed to the scene of an officer-involved shooting near Wilson High School in Southwest Portland on Wednesdy afternoon.A Portland police officer was wounded and a suspect was killed in a Wednesday afternoon shootout near Southwest Portland's Wilson High School.

The officer was treated at Oregon Health & Science University and released Wednesday evening. His name was not immediately released.

The shooting happened just after 4 p.m., when officers from the Police Youth Services and the Central Precinct responded to a neighborhood near Wilson High School after a suspicious vehicle was reported in the area. There was a confrontation, the suspect was killed and the officer was wounded.

Police say a firearm was recovered near the suspect.

Police were on the lookout for a suspicious van driven by a man who acted suspiciously as students walked home from school. The bureau added patrols in the area to investigate the incidents.

Detectives were investigating the shooting Wednesday afternoon and evening. Traffic in the Hillsdale area was blocked during the investigation. More than three dozen police officers were at the scene after the shooting.

Nine TriMet bus lines were detouring around the area during the investigation.
