by: PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE/GREG MUHR - The Open medows school in North Portland was damaged by fire Monday.Portland firefighters responded to a fire at the Open Meadows alternative school in North Portland on Monday afternoon.

No one was injured and there was no immediate estimate of the cause.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews were dispatched to a commercial fire at the school at 7654 N. Crawford at 2:40 p.m. om April 21. Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from multiple floors.

Crews commented on the difficulty of locating the fire and the rapid travel of fire due to the older construction type and building codes of the converted three story Victorian home. All 110 students were evacuated by school staff and there are no reports of injuries to students or staff.

A functioning sprinkler system in the building was not able to contain the fire from spreading to multiple floors. Fire investigators have determined damage to the house at just under $50,000 and the cause was listed as "undetermined" after it was extinguished.
