by: ERIKA LOCKWOOD - Members of Rex Puntam High School's choir celebrate their phenomenal finish at the state finals May 10.Not only was their total score May 9 highest among in the 5A division, 343 was the highest score in any competing division, and all were scored by the same rubric. Judges were impressed by how RPHS singers were able to use a different style for each of their five pieces, and by how their skills excelled whether they were using loud or soft voices.

“I’m proud to have a group of really hardworking students,” said RPHS Director Erika Lockwood.

This is RPHS Choir’s first win at state under Lockwood’s direction. Under the direction of John Baker, RPHS last won the choir title in 2011, the year he retired. Baker has gone on to start the North Clackamas Community Choir group.
