by: PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE/DICK HARRIS - A fire in a vacant house damaged two nearby homes.Three houses were damaged by a fire that began in a vacant Northeast Portland house early Wednesday.

No one was injured in the incident.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews responded to a call that came in at 2:20 a.m. on May 28 at 14932 NE Graham St. The call came from a neighbor who said that a vacant home near hers was fully engulfed in fire and extending to her own home. She said she could hear glass breaking on some of her own windows.

When the crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke from a residence extending to two surrounding homes. The incident commander at the time upgraded the fire response to a second alarm, adding an almost duplicate number of fire engines and ladder trucks to deal with the possible three house fires.

Both homes near the vacant house were occupied but residents were able evacuate safely. Although all fires were extinguished, at least two homes suffered significant damage.

A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire and assess the damages. No results were immediately available.
