Rich Tyler of Portland Fire and Rescue said photos of his eight and twelve-year-old children, dating back to when they were toddlers, were lost when the laptop was stolen from his parked truck at the corner of Skidmore St. and Michigan Ave.

He said he only planned to be away from his truck long enough to get a bite to eat.

“The most important stuff on that computer is the pictures of my kids, and that’s invaluable, priceless,” he said.

Saturday, Tyler put up posters offering a reward of $1,000 for the return of his laptop. As a standard procedure, PF&R turned off the phone, but before that, Tyler managed to send a text message to the thief offering a reward for the return of the pictures.

“I offered him a reward, and the response was ‘you did a dumb thing, you did a stupid thing,’ which I completely agree with,” said Tyler.

“I did [do a stupid thing], I left the computer bag in my truck and parked in a bad spot.”

Tyler is stopping at nothing to get the photos of his children back.

“The phone number’s on the flyer. If you feel like contacting me, if not, drop it at any of the fire stations,” he said.

Anyone with any information about the laptop, a Dell Vostro 1510, is asked to call 503-825-2304. Tyler said it is a sore reminder to back up any information on your computer, and not to leave valuables in the car.
