The date for the "Attack of the Clones" Oregon wine event has been set for March 14 at the Stoller Family Estate in Dayton.

The event will include two parts: a technical discussion and "grand tasting," featuring 40 of the state's top chardonnay producers.

It'll be hosted by the Oregon Chardonnay Symposium, which helps to boost domestic and international recognition of the state's chardonnay production and history.

The discussion will be moderated by acclaimed author and sommelier Rajat Parr, a name synonymous with several wine ventures that include Sandhi, Maison L’Orée and Evening Land Vineyards.

The panel will include Thomas Bachelder of Bachelder Wines, Mimi Casteel of Bethel Heights Vineyard, Jason Lett of The Eyrie Vineyards, John Paul of Cameron Winery and Craig Williams of X-Novo Vineyard.

The grand tasting will showcase the range of clonal selections, styles, production methods and terroir encompassing the state's chardonnay production.

“Our fourth annual event will delve deeper into what makes Oregon chardonnay unique," says symposium coordinator Paul Durant.

And what exactly makes Oregon’s chardonnay stand out from the rest? The answer can be found in how the grapes are specifically grown, in a cool climate that allows for a great acidity and complexity.

“[We have] half the acreage than in the 90’s. It was difficult and challenging to sell the wines, so vineyards were grafted or moved… Now there is a resurgence of grape selection combined with really talented wine making that is increasing the demand,” says Durant. “People have a whole new level of interest.”

The event is set for March 14 at Stoller Family Estate, 16161 N.E. McDougall Rd. in Dayton. Tickets are $150; for more, visit
