Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro while her owners await her homecoming.Gidget, a seven-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, has been on a journey that might make a good Disney movie.

Gidget went missing from a town near Philadelphia on April 22. Three-and-a- half months later, a Good Samaritan found the pup in Tualatin and brought her to the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter in Hillsboro as a stray.

“It is an absolute mystery to everyone how little Gidget ended up here, nearly 3,000 miles from home,” said Animal Services Manager Deborah Wood. “We are just thrilled that she was microchipped and that the owner’s information was current. We were able to tell Gidget’s family that she is safe.”

The next step will be to figure out how to get her home.

“Gidget’s owner clearly loves her, and has been trying for the past couple of weeks to find a way to get her home,” says Wood.

It is too expensive for the owner to fly out, and the shelter doesn’t have a transportation program. “Our goal is to get this dog back to her worried family, and we’re going to have to be creative to do so,” Wood says.
