Photo Credit: COURTESY OF PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - Members of the Portland Police Bureau Crisis Negotiation Team celebrated last week when the team took first place in international competition in Texas. The Portland Police Bureau’s Crisis Negotiation Team took first place in last week’s 25th Annual Crisis Negotiator Competition, hosted by Texas State University's School of Criminal Justice.

The bureau’s team also took first place at the Pacific Northwest Regional Negotiation Competition in 2014.

During the competition Jan. 13 in Austin, Texas, Portland’s 26-member Crisis Negotiation Team competed with 30 others from across North America. Teams competed in complicated, daylong scenarios, involving multiple hostages and hostage-takers, as well as persons-in-crisis.
