Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is now an author, coming to Portland this week to promote her new book about youth activism.

The daughter of President Bill Clinton and Democratic presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton will be in town for three events Thursday, Nov. 5.

The 35-year-old New Yorker is author of "It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going," aimed at middle readers age 10-14.

The 402-page book shares facts, charts, photographs and stories to give young readers an understanding of the world around them, and how they can make a difference.

She touches on a range of topics including poverty, global warming, obesity, gender inequality and cancer.

Thursday morning, Clinton will visit students at Mt. Tabor Middle School for a presentation and Q&A about her book.

Afterward she'll participate in a panel on school lunch, resiliency and student action at Portland nonprofit Ecotrust.

The panel event (by invitation only) will also include Curt Ellis of FoodCorp; Gina Condon of Construct Foundation & Breakers; and a representative from the Oregon Food Bank.

Thursday evening starting at 5:30 p.m., Clinton will sign copies of her book at Powell's City of Books, 1005 W. Burnside St. That event is open to the public.
