Owner of gluten-free bake shop concocts desserts with names like Raspberry Hibiscus Rose and Chocolate Caramel Curry Crush for Food Network's 'Ultimate Showdown Challenge'

Kyra Bussanich, the founder of Kyra’s Bake Shop in Lake Oswego, became the only four-time winner of the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” on Monday night when she bested three other previous winners to conquer the “Ultimate Showdown Challenge.”

Bussanich created her signature gluten-free desserts in a stunning variety of flavors with a theme based on Cirque de Soleil’s show, “Mystere.” Her larger-than-life, gravity-defying display in the third and final round earned her cupcakes a spot at the center of an epic Las Vegas party and a $10,000 prize. Tim Smith, the artistic director for “Mystere,” was on hand to help crown the winner.

“This win is extremely gratifying because I always feel such pressure on the show,” Bussanich says, “not only to bake well and represent my shop, but to also knock it out of the park and represent all of us out there who are gluten-intolerant!”

Bussanich says Kyra’s Bake Shop (599 A Ave. in Lake Oswego) will be offering the five winning flavors over the coming weeks so that her fans can taste the concoctions she baked for the judges. Each flavor will run for one week only, starting Tuesday (and continuing through May 10) with the Chocolate Cardamom Orange Hazelnut Goat Cheese cupcake. The Coconut Pineapple Rum, Raspberry Hibiscus Rose, Chocolate Caramel Curry Crush and Cherry Balsamic Black Pepper cupcakes will follow.
