Swanson leaves the city just as Assistant City Administrator Jacque Betz heads on vacation through June 18

Gladstone will pay more than $40,000 in severance to City Administrator Eric Swanson for his resignation obtained Friday, June 9.

Eric SwansonOfficially the resignation was by mutual consent with the remaining five city councilors, but Swanson's resignation for "personal reasons" came less than a month after the May 23 recall of two city councilors by voters in a special election. His independent evaluation was due out the week after he turned in his resignation.

The city has received a formal complaint against Swanson and the two recalled city councilors from the city's newly elected mayor, Tammy Stempel, alleging that Swanson was involved in a conversation telling Stempel that she no longer was allowed to participate in any city activities, speak to staff or request information needed for her pending position. City Councilor Neal Reisner was among those who witnessed the heated conversation in City Hall. Swanson has denied that he told Stempel in December that she was not to talk with city staff or volunteers until her swearing in as mayor in January.

"She stated to me that she does not recollect making this comment, and I concur that I did not make this comment," Swanson said.
