McGuire is the second African-American lawyer Brown has appointed to the bench, doubling the number of African-American judges in Oregon courts.

PATRICIA McGUIREPortland attorney Patricia McGuire was named Wednesday, Sept. 13, to the Multnomah County Circuit Court bench.

Gov. Kate Brown said McGuire would fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Diana I. Stuart. McGuire will be assigned to the court's Family Department.

McGuire is the second African-American lawyer Brown has appointed to the bench, doubling the number of African-American judges in Oregon courts.

As an attorney, McGuire specialized in family law. She did civil litigation at the national law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, where she became a partner and a member of the firm's executive committee. In 2007, she formed a private practice focused on family law.

She has been on the board of Saint Andrews Legal Clinic and volunteered for Legal Aid Services of Oregon. She also was a coach for Grant High School's "We the People" constitution team.

McGuire is a Portland native who attended Oregon State University and earned a law degree at Lewis and Clark Law School.
