NW Natural told its employees Friday that it is moving its headquarters from the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood to leased office space in a new building at 250 S.W. Taylor.
The announcement said the lease will likely start in the fall of 2019.
According to the announcement:
• NW Natural issued an Request for Proposals in June 2016 that elicited 33 responses, and then selected four finalists in December through a rigorous review process that evaluated each response against established consistent criteria. The company narrowed the choice to two finalists in March, and made it final selection this month.
•The final decision was approved by NW Natural's executives and our board. The company also kept the Oregon Public Utility Commission staff informed. The decision will be the OPUC reviewed at its first rate proceeding after the lease becomes effective.
• The selection is the lowest cost option for a 2020 lease that meets the company's criteria and allows for optimal emergency response and seismic readiness.
NW Natural's current headquarters is in One Pacific Square, located at 220 N.W. 2nd Ave. It is an iconic building in the neighbrohood.
A website for the building — called 250 Tayor‚ says it will offer 183,500 sqaure feet of office pace in 10 floors near amenities in the heart of downtown.
The landlord, California-based Merlo Equities, waged an unusual public relations campaign to keep the company as a tenant, including hiring a political consultant and launching a webpage. The Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood association urged the company to stay.
The developer of the new building is Rockwood Capital, LLC. NW Natural says the lease terms are confidential.
