Bipartisan cheers seek congressional honor for champion Thorns
How's this for bipartisanship? Oregon's congressional delegation has introduced resolutions in the U.S. House and Senate honoring the NWSL champions Portland Thorns.
The Thorns won their second national title Oct. 14 when they beat the North Carolina Courage 1-0.
Resolutions were introduced by U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and by Reps. Suzanne Bonamici, Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, Greg Walden and Kurt Schrader. The resolutions noted the Thorns led the NWSL in attendance, averaging 17,653 fans per home game at Providence Park. The team has led the league in home attendance each year since the NWSL began in 2013.
The resolutions also recognized the team for "holding community service events to inspire and involve young women and men."
