Name of the victim and cause of death not immediately released as investigation continues.

KOIN 6 NEWS - Police responded to PSU early Tuesday.A man was found dead near Portland State University in downtown Portland early Tuesday morning.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

Police say that preliminary information suggests there was a disturbance prior to the shooting. When Portland police and Portland State University Public Safety officers arrived, they found an adult male in front of the Subway located at 1717 Southwest Park Avenue. Officers provided the man medical aid, but emergency medical responders determined he was deceased.

During the preliminary investigation, officers contacted witnesses who reported seeing several people running from the location shortly after hearing gunfire.

Officers searched the neighborhood and did not locate a suspect. Evidence of gunfire was located in the area near the Subway restaurant.

Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division have responded to assist with the investigation. A member of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office will also respond to the location.

The victim will be identified once the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy and next of kin have been notified.

Based on information learned at this point in the investigation, detectives do not believe there is a danger to the public.

Southwest Park Avenue to Southwest 10th Avenue on Montgomery is closed to all traffic. So are parts of the PSU campus.
