One person dies in I-5 crash
One person died and two others were injured Sunday evening in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 north near North Marine Drive and south of the Interstate Bridge.
A Portland police officer responding to the crash was also injurd when has vehicle was crashed into by a motorist. A second officer in the vehicle was not injured.
Names of the victims were not immediately released.
The first crash happened at about 6:43 p.m., Nov. 26. Portland police said a white Ford Mustang and a Chevrolet pickup collided. Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash.
One person in the Mustang died in the crash and a second person in the Mustang was seriously injured. One person in the Chevrolet pickup was treated at an area hospital for what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.
Police say that when the second crash happened, two officers were inside their stopped patrol vehicle with the vehicle's emergency lights activated when a Ford Focus crashed into it.
One officer was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other officer was assessed by emergency medical responders at the scene and did not require medical transport.
I-5 north was closed during the crash investigation.
