Elderly female pedestrian dies of crash injuries
An 87-year-old female pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle on Southeast Division Street on Tuesday.
The name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old George Walters Brackenbury, remained on the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was released pending further investigation.
According to police, this is the 15th traffic fatality of the year. The total was 10 at this time last year.
Police say that investigating officers have learned that the victim was crossing Southeast Division Street in the 16900 block when she was struck by Brackenbury, who was driving a Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Division.
Traffic Division officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
This case remains under investigation and once completed will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.
According to police, at 9:12 p.m. on May 8, East Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a driver in the 16900 block of Southeast Division Street. When officers and medical personnel arrived, they located an elderly female pedestrian suffering from traumatic injuries. She was transported to a Portland hospital by ambulance for treatment, but died.
