Police respond to 2 shootings, 1 injury in East Portland
The first call arrived at 3 a.m., sending officers scrambling to the 1700 block of Northeast 114th Avenue in the Parkrose Heights neighborhood east of Interstate 205.
Police say an adult man was struck by gunfire at the scene, and was subsequently driven to the 1700 block of Northeast 162nd Avenue in Gresham in a private vehicle. After he arrived in Gresham, someone called 9-1-1 and evidently alerted local authorities.
"The victim in this shooting did not require transport by ambulance to an area hospital," police said in a news release.
The private vehicle involved in this shooting, a Ford Explorer, was struck by gunfire. Officers also found evidence of gunfire on 114th Avenue. The Gang Enforcement Team is investigating.
At 4:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11, East Precinct officers responded to the second shooting of the night, this time in the 7600 block of Southeast Rural Street in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood west of 82nd Avenue.
Police say an occupied house was struck by gunfire, but the people they found inside the home were not injured.
"At this time there have been no reports of anyone arriving at area hospitals as a result of this shooting," police said in a news release. "Officers canvassed the area, looking for suspects and evidence."
More evidence of gunfire was tagged and bagged in the roadway.
Police do not have a description of the suspect, but believe the two shootings are not related. The Gang Enforcement Team is also investigating.
