UPDATE: Police identify victim in Sunday evening shooting but do not release any suspect information.

PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - Billy R. MayfieldA man was shot and killed in East Portland on Sunday evening.

The victim was identified as Billy R. Mayfield, 37. No suspect information was immediately available.

According to police, at 9:20 p.m. on July 1, East Precinct officers responded to the reports of gunfire in the 12200 block of Southeast Harold Street.

As officers were responding to the area, a resident of a location in the 12200 block of Southeast Harold Street contacted 911 and reported that a person had been shot inside the residence.

When officers arrived at the residence, they made sure it was safe for emergency medical personnel to enter, rendered medical aid to the adult male victim, and requested emergency responders enter the location. The victim was provided additional emergency medical aid, but died while being transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

Officers searched the area for suspects associated with this shooting, but did not locate any. Police say there is not believed to be an immediate danger to the community in relation to this shooting, however.

The Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail is leading the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division are responding to assist with the investigation. Members of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's and Multnomah County District Attorney's Offices are also responding to assist with this homicide investigation.
