Jay Walter Jaacks placed the camera inside a restroom of Joyful Noise Child Development Center.

A man convicted of placing a hidden video camera inside the adult restroom of a Portland daycare will spend about a month behind bars.

Portland resident Jay Walter Jaacks, 50, will spend 34 days in federal prison and remain on probation for five years after he was found guilty of placing the concealed camera inside the Joyful Noise Child Development Center, located at 333 S.W. 1st Avenue.

Jaacks was also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service. He has been permanently banned from Joyful Noise and can not contact any of the daycare's employees.

Prosecutors say Jaacks hid a video camera inside a "small cosmetics bag" and then placed it in the daycare's adult bathroom on July 29, 2016.

The footage captured 17 adults in various stages of undress — including both daycare workers and other parents — before an employee found the camera and immediately called police.

"Law enforcement officials seized the camera before Jaacks could retrieve it," a news release notes. "All employees and families affiliated with the daycare facility have been notified of Jaacks' crimes."

Jaacks pleaded guilty to 17 counts of video voyeurism, a misdemeanor, on April 23 of this year.
