Leo Stratton's semi truck left the road sometime before 2 a.m. on Sept. 12 near milepost 74.

OREGON STATE POLICE PHOTO - The semi truck was engulfed in flames after it left the roadway. A Portland truck driver has been identified as the only fatality in a fiery crash on Interstate 84 at milepost 74 near The Dalles.

Oregon State Police troopers say Leo Stratton, 50, of Portland, was piloting a semi truck when the vehicle drifted off the "slow lane," causing it to strike a rock embankment and catch fire.

"The operator of the vehicle died as a result of injuries," a spokesperson wrote.

Emergency personnel from Mosier, the Wasco County Sheriff's Office, Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the wreck. The crash was reported at 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
