Pedestrian dies of Oct. 26 crash injuries
The pedestrian injured during an Oct. 26 crash in Southeast Portland died of his injuries in an area hospital Sunday.
The victim is identified as Darnell J. Jolly, 64, of Portland.
The driver William C. Leptich, 64, was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Assault in the Third Degree, and Reckless Driving.
The crash is the 30th traffic related fatality investigated by the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team in 2018.
According to police, at at 6:41 p.m. on Oct. 26, East Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the report of a crash near Southeast 146th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street.
When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they located an adult male lying on the ground. The injured man was provided emergency medical aid and transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of what were believed to be serious life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford F-150 that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene. Officers believed he was driving under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crash.
Based on the severity of the man's injuries, the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to assume the investigation. They were assisted by criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division.
