Want to reserve park for your 2019 wedding? Jump into city's lottery
For the second year, Portland Parks & Recreation is holding a lottery for wedding reservations in city parks.
The lottery gives couples a chance to reserve their space for weddings between March and December 2019. People who don't jump into the lottery will have to wait until Jan. 1 to reserve their wedding locations.
There are more than 200 city parks, gardens and natural settings that can be reserved for weddings and/or receptions.
A year ago, Portland Parks & Recreation hosted its first lottery for wedding reservations, primarily because parks bureau's new Customer Service Center moved into a smaller space at 111 S.W. Columbia St., Suite 660, making it difficult to accommodate the usual long in-person wedding day reservation line that formed every Jan. 2.
Parks officials said last year's lottery worked well, opening the door to continue this year.
Beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19, couples who want to reserve a park or city-owned location for a 2019 wedding should submit their requests to apm.activecommunities.com/portlandparks/reserve_options. They also can call or visit the bureau's Customer Service Center, 503-823-2525. As part of the requests, couples will have to pay a $117 non-refundable application fee.
Reservation requests will be taken until 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. People who enter the lottery will be assigned a number. On, Dec. 14, the numbers will be placed in a large glass bowl and drawn randomly. Results will be posted on the bureau's website and shown Live on www.Facebook.com/PortlandParks.
Park bureau officials will process lottery requests beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17. On Jan. 2, the bureau's Customer Service Center will open for all non-lottery wedding requests.
The lottery is only for events to take place March 1, to Dec. 31, 2019. To book weddings or events for January or February 2019, customers should call the Customer Service Center.
