Officer, suspect identified in officer-involved shooting
A Portland police officer fired his gun while responding to a domestic disturbance call late Wednesday.
Police say on one was hurt in the incident and a woman was taken into custody.
The suspect is identified as Anita M. Ruiz, 34. She was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.
The officer is identified as Onest Robert, a six-year-veteran of the Portland Police Bureau. As per bureau policy, he will remain on paid administrative leave until the completion of the bureau and Multnomah County District Attorney's Office investigation.
Police say Robert fired one round when Ruiz advanced on him with a knife during the call.
According to police, at about 11:22 p.m. on Jan. 2, East Precinct officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Stacy Lee Apartments, 141 N.E. 147th Ave. As officers talked with several people believed to be involved in the disturbance, the officer fired his weapon. No one was injured and Ruiz was arrested.
Portland homicide detectives and the Multnomah County district attorney's office are investigating the shooting. The police bureau also will do an internal review of the incident and the case will go before the Police Review Board.
