Pedestrian identified in fatal NE Airport Way crash
The pedestrian killed in a Saturday crash on Northeast Airport Way has been identified as Rachelle D. Cox, 34, of Portland.
Preliminary information suggests Cox was walking on a sidewalk next to Northeast Airport Way when the driver of a Subaru Legacy left the roadway and struck Cox.
Officers located the driver of the Subaru, which was seized as evidence.
Portland police responded to Airport Way near Northeast Mason Street around 2:55 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, according to a news release.
Officers and EMTs found an "injured pedestrian" lying on the ground. Medical personnel determined the person was dead.
The authorities say a 9-1-1 caller provided information about the vehicle involved in the crash, allowing police to locate the motorist on Airport Way near Northeast Riverside Parkway.
Police say that the investigation continues and more information will be released later. Sections of Airport Way between Mason Street and Riverside Parkway will likely be closed to traffic for the next four to six hours.
This is the second fatal traffic crash investigated by Portland police in 2019.
"More information will be provided as more is learned about this fatal traffic crash investigation," according to a news release.
