One dead, one wounded in NE Portland shooting
Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another wounded in Northeast Portland on Thursday.
Reza Chehrazi Mardani, 64, was arrested at the scene. He booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempted Aggravated Murder, Murder, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He will be arraigned next week in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
The person killed on Thursday evening has been identified as George Michael Atkeson, 62. The person injured in the shooting has been identified as Darlene Marie Kelley, 63. She is continuing to receive treatment at a Portland hospital for traumatic injuries. Her dog was also killed.
According to police, at 4:34 p.m. on Jan. 17, North Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire at a residence in the 5300 block of Northeast 74th Avenue.
When officers and medical personnel arrived, they located one person deceased and one person injured. The injured person was transported by medical personnel to a Portland hospital for treatment to traumatic injuries.
One person has been detained as a part of this investigation.
Homicide detectives responded to begin a death investigation. Neighborhood traffic was affected.
