Most cases still in Clark County, although the list of potential exposure sites in Oregon is growing.

PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP FILE PHOTO - Health authorities are urging people to get vaccinated against the measles.A case of the measles has been confirmed in Multnomah County that is linked to the outbreak in Washington, mostly in Clark County.

The person in Multnomah County contracted measles after coming into contact with one of the Clark County cases, health officials say.

"A very astute clinician had measles on the radar, contacted Public Health authorities for testing and we got that confirmation today and sprang into action," Multnomah County Health Department Deputy Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Vines said Friday.

As of Sunday, there were 34 confirmed and nine suspected cases in Clark County, almost all of them from unvaccinated children.

"When diseases become real, I think that parents who may be putting off vaccines or just hadn't really made a decision — I think that gets their attention and I think we do see a bump sometimes in vaccination after an outbreak like this and that's certainly my hope," says Vines.

Vines encouraged everyone to make sure they have been vaccinated against the measles. She said the vaccine is "safe, it's effective, it's readily available."

Multnomah County health officials say, "Most Oregonians have been vaccinated against measles and are protected. Anyone who has never been vaccinated is at higher risk of getting measles if they come into contact with someone who is contagious."

Health officials identified for new sites in the Portland area where people may have been exposed to the virus on Friday. You can find the most complete list of possible exposure locations in Multnomah County here.
