Two men began fighting on the streetcar before the stabbing occurred, Portland police say.

Authorities responded to the 500 block of Southwest Mill Street around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Responding officers found an adult man with a "non-life-threatening" wound caused by a knife. The injured man was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Police say the incident began with a "disturbance" inside the streetcar involving two men, which escalated after one man "pulled a knife."

"One of the subjects involved ended up being injured by the knife," according to a news release. "Officers do not believe there is a danger posed to the public in relation to this assault."
