Search continues in Pennsylvania for Haley Lorenzen's body after she was killed and thrown in a river

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: HALEY MAREE LORENZEN GOFUNDME - Haley Lorenzen, 24, was killed in Pennsylvania. Law enforcement is searching for her body. Haley Lorenzen followed her heart in a move from Oregon to Pennsylvania.

Now, her loved ones are trying to raise funds to bring her body home.

On New Year's Day of this year, law enforcement in Pennsylvania received reports that Lorenzen, 24, had gone missing from her home in Wyoming County, PA., near the city of Scranton. After a lengthy search, police arrested Phillip Walters — the man she traveled across the country for — in connection to her death.

According to law enforcement, Walters, 31, killed Lorenzen, who was from Gresham, and threw her body into the Susquehanna River after tying it to a bag of rocks. The discovery was made after a woman came forward claiming to have helped dispose of the body. The woman, who has not been charged, said she was also in a relationship with Walters and didn't want to get tied up in a love triangle. Police said when she arrived at his home to confront him, she found Lorenzen's body in the bathroom.

She told police that Walters had choked Lorenzen and hit her in the head with a hammer. He is in Wyoming County Prison facing homicide charges.

Meanwhile the Tunkhannock Township Police Department is leading the effort to find Lorenzen's body, and her family is fundraising to bring her back to Oregon.

Lorenzen's family started a GoFundMe campaign, www.gofundme.com/missing-person-haley-maree-lorenzen, and have a benefit planned to help cover expenses related to the search and the return of her body to Oregon.
