Third-floor apartment catches fire downtown
A downtown Portland third-floor apartment fire sent two people to the hospital, officials say.
Rescue crews responded to the blaze near the corner of Northeast 5th Avenue and Glisan Street just after 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7.
When they arrived, crews learned one person was still inside the apartment. As the firefighters rushed forward, they found the male victim and "removed him outside to awaiting medics," according to a news release.
A second victim was found outside the building suffering from smoke inhalation. Both patients were taken to hospitals.
Fire officials say the blaze did not spread outside the "room of origin." Investigators did not immediately determine the cause of the fire.
TriMet buses were offered up as cold-weather shelters for other residents who had to evacuate the building during the fire and response.
