Work will begin next week on Gilbert Primary Park, located at Southeast 134th Avenue and Foster Road, adjacent to Gilbert Park Elementary School.
The Portland Parks & Recreation project is funded by the most recent parks bona new playground with accessible surfacing, swings, slides, a spinner, a net climber, an improved picnic area, and more.
The project also includes a new ADA-accessible paved pathway connecting the playground to three park entrances.
According to PP&R, the existing playground has some of the oldest play equipment in the parks system, with some pieces dating back to the late 1960s. In recent years, a slide was removed due to lead paint, and other equipment has been removed that was no longer safe.
Area residents and park visitors will see fencing installed starting next week. The construction area will include the existing playground site, the new playground area, and some of the bark chip pathways. This will allow for removal of the old play equipment, construction of the new playground, and paving of the new pathways.
Construction is expected to be completed in Fall 2019.
